Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman Abraham Roman, was the 3rd child of the family. Her father, who was a carnival barker, died as a young little girl. This forced her mother to provide for her family through work as an attendant and a cleaner. Ruth was a student and grew up poor in Boston Massachusetts' tenement districts. She left the school she attended after only two years in order to pursue acting as a profession. This was not an easy path to follow. While she was offered an interview as a hat check girl in New York posing as a still for a mystery magazine but no theater jobs was offered. Then, after a time as a club hat girl and a club hat girl, she made the decision to go home to the United States and quit her position. The city of Boston was where she worked during the evening as an actor for the New England Repertory Company and the rest of the time, was an usherette. She has also completed her studies at Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she was a drama student.
